Why Can’t You Play Flash Player Streams on iOS?
The 3rd of December 2011 marks the day when Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito can finally meet each other again for the Super Welterweight WBA World Championship at Madison Square Garden in New York. Many people want to stream the match through Flash Player Streams, but find they struggle on iOS. However, since September 2011, it is actually possible for Flash to be supported on iOS devices, not because Apple gave in, but because Adobe did. In fact, it seems that iOS devices will be able to play Flash even better than other devices. This is great news for all you Apple owners out there of course!
It has been explained by Adobe that the latest Flash Media Server will be able to repackage any content onto devices that do not have Flash support by implementing either HTTP Live Streaming or HTTP Dynamic Streaming. Surprisingly enough, this has nothing to do with Steve Jobs’ departure from Apple, it is Adobe that has had to finally change their systems. It is felt that this is because Apple has become increasingly popular and now pretty much owns mobile video space. Whereas in the past, Adobe was the king pin, this position is now held by Apple, so Adobe needs Apple and not the other way around.
Of course, the new Flash Media Server 4.5 is still pretty expensive, but it does allow media publishers to now have a simple and single workflow by using a single stream to deliver content to devices that are Flash enabled and to iOS devices. The server allows delivery to iPhone and iPad, has integrated content protection and on-demand stream packaging, as well as many other fantastic benefits, including in-band key rotation and scalable license delivery. Basically, if you own an iOS device, nothing can stop you now! This is why we invite you to watch Cotto vs Margarito live stream using any device connected to the internet.
