Some barcode programs can create labels and print stickers without the use of other software. Nearly all vendors today want barcodes for faster processing while many require a specific barcode font. Barcodes can be used in–house to track inventory, quicken the checkout process and to assign pricing at checkout, if your business does not sell to other vendors or distributors. Define why you need the program before looking at barcode software.

If you only deal with a few products, but work with various vendors, you will likely need access to various barcodes. Since many vendors have different barcode requirements, you will want a product that is easy to use yet offers more barcode fonts than most. If you are a High Volume Seller you will want a program that can work with your database and native printer languages. This type of barcode software is complex and is usually offered in a Pro or Enterprise edition.
